ARhrrrr

ARhrrrr is an augmented reality first person shooter for mobile devices. The mobile device provides a window into a 3D town overrun with zombies. Point the camera at our special game map to mix virtual and real world content. Civilians are trapped in the town, and must escape before the zombies eat them! From your vantage point in a helicopter overhead, you must shoot the zombies to clear the path for the civilians to get out. Watch out though as the zombies will fight back, throwing bloody organs to bring down your copter. Move the phone quickly to dodge them. You can also use Skittles as tangible inputs to the game, placing one on the board and shooting it to trigger an explosion.

Lost in the City

Lost in the City is a 3rd person action adventure / exploration game for PC & Mac. The protagonist of the game is a little alien from an unknown planet. Through some unexplained accident he lands headfirst on the city street. As he sits on the corner, he quickly looks in all directions several times trying to get a grasp this unfamiliar environment. Confused and frightened, he suddenly realizes that his hunger has overcome all other feelings. He is a smart yet timid character, and as an alien he possesses many special abilities which will help him to get around without catching attention from humans. His immediate goal is to find food while staying away from humans’ attention and his long term goal is to recover a missing computer chip for his spaceship so he can get back home.

Journey to the West

Journey to the West is a 3rd person action adventure / fighting game for PC & Mac. This game is based on the characters from the mythological Chinese novel, “Journey to the West”, which was written in the 1500’s during the Ming Dynasty based on traditional folktales. Consisting of 100 chapters, this fantasy relates the adventures of a Tang Dynasty (618-907 A.D.) priest San-Zang and his three disciples, the Monkey, the Pig, and the River Monster, as they travel west in search of the holy Buddhist scriptures from India. In the 100 chapters, the team overcomes 81 calamities and confrontations in the form of supernatural phenomena and monsters before reaching their goal and returning to China with the scriptures. “Journey to the West” is one of the most popular and beloved stories in Asia, and it is to the Chinese what the Wizard of Oz is to Americans. I have always been fascinated by the plot and characters in “Journey to the West” since I was a child, and it is my goal to give this 500 years old ancient Chinese story a brand new life in the form of modern video game.

AR Game Studio

In 2010, I worked with Dr. Blair MacIntyre (http://www.blairmacintyre.com/) to establish AR (Augmented Reality) Game Studio. The AR Game Studio is a collaborative environment bringing together students and faculty from the Augmented Environments Lab at the Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech), the Atlanta campus of the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD-Atlanta) and the Berklee College of Music, to explore the potential of AR for creating new kinds of mobile gaming and interactive media experiences.

Visit www.argamestudio.org for more information about AR Game Studio and our project info and videos.

Game Art

I am a hands-on game artist, animator, designer and developer. I am proficient and experienced in producing art and animation as well as providing art and animation direction for various styles of 2D and 3D visuals/content for digital games. I am knowledgeable and experienced in game art and animation production for various platforms including desktop, console, web and mobile. I am also familiar with motion capture – I have worked at Acclaim’s motion capture studio and collaborated with Hi-Rez Studios to establish the motion capture lab for SCAD-Atlanta. Due to the evolution of my role in my career (from a game artist/animator to game designer/developer/director), I have to shift my focus and research from “just art and animation” to “game system and structure” and “game design and storytelling”, but I am perfectly comfortable with all the latest art and animation software and tools such as Maya, MotionBuilder, ZBrush and Photoshop. I am capable of and experienced in teaching all levels of game art and animation classes in addition to game design and game development classes. I have produced a great deal of art and animation myself besides providing art and animation direction for all of my projects and also some of my students’ projects.

Community

I am an active member of IGDA and Global Game Jam region coordinator.

In 2012 I organized and directed the Georgia region game jam at SCAD-Atlanta. With 210 registered participants, it became the largest global game jam site in the US and the third largest in the world. 5 industry presentations/workshops were conducted in the first afternoon of the event. 18 industry/academic leaders in game development participated in the post-jam presentation and judging in the last night of the event. 35 games were created in this 48 hours event and presented to a jury of 18 industry/academic leaders in Georgia in the last night of the event.
